Here I Go!

Okay, so I decided to go ahead and just keep a blog of my thoughts on books, my kids, life, knitting and crocheting, and if no one reads it, that's okay! I'm basically just doing it for ME, to kind of get a feel for it, and to see if it's something that I want to continue doing. I love books, and I really love discussing books, so I think I will like that aspect of it. I also love to knit and crochet, so I may mention that on here, too. But that's not all, folks! I'm also a mother to 6 children and a grandmother to 1. There's enough fodder in that to keep me going for years, let me tell you! My oldest daughter, Nicole, is 27 and is retired from the Air Force. She was medically discharged when she hurt her ankle and ended up with nerve damage after 2 surgeries on it. She's enrolled at Ohio State University (Go Bucks) in the pre-vet program and doing great! My oldest son, Andy, is 25 and is going to business college. I'm so proud of him because he never did really well in high school, but he's on the Dean's list in college! My next daughter is actually my previous step-daughter, Amberlin, and she's 24. When her father and I divorced, I got her in the divorce, and I figure I'm the lucky one because she's an amazing girl! She's married and has started her own photography business. My next two boys are AJ (15) and Lincoln (10) with Amberlin's father. They live with him (that's a really long, bitter story that I'm not even going to get into now!), but they are still my little boys! Last but not least is my 5 year old son, JJ, or as I call him - "God's surprise gift"! Don't believe the doctors when they say you can't get pregnant any more because you had cervical cancer and half of your cervix is gone - trust me when I say "YOU CAN!!" LOL I love him to death, although having a 5 year old when you are 47 yourself can be a bit taxing, and I wouldn't trade him for the world. He has ADHD and behavioral problems so I have chosen to homeschool him, and I really think that's the best choice for us. He loves learning, but if he was forced to sit still at a desk in a traditional school, he would learn to hate it very quickly I think. Then there's my 3 year old grandson (Andy's son), Michael. Andy and Michael's mother (Marissa) aren't married, and she likes to play games using Michael as the prize, so we don't get to see him nearly enough. He's a character, too!

As for me, I've been married 3 times, and unfortunately the third time was not the charm for me. I'm separated from JJ's father now. I don't plan on getting married again, though! Been there, done that, failed miserably! I live with Nicole, Andy and JJ in an apartment in Columbus, Ohio. I don't work outside of the home because I'm disabled (following 5 back surgeries that screwed up the nerves in my back with scar tissue). In a nutshell, I'm a Christian, mother, grandmother, reader, knitter and crocheter. I homeschool my son and I love to connect with and meet new people. I think if I decide to continue with this blog, I won't want for material to write about!

If anyone actually reads this, thank you so much for taking the time! I'm sure I don't have anything new or wise to say, but I really like the idea of putting down my thoughts on paper (so to speak). I am currently working on 2 knit projects and one crochet. I review books for NetGalley and also for authors and publishers when they contact me, and my review list is at around 150 right now! I'll try to write more about the books I'm reading later this week and I will post the reviews here from now on. I'm actually pretty excited about that!

Thanks for reading,

Julie

  1. Thanks for stopping by my blog! I came by and followed you.

Wow! You have a busy life. Congratulations on beating cancer and I am amazed by your large family (and your surprise). I have divorced parents- so I think it is the best thing when people are not meant to be. Now I get to see my parents happy. :) That is important!

I am looking forward to stopping back and seeing your reviews on books. I wish you the best of luck with your new blog.

    1. Thank you so much, Jess! That really means a lot coming from an established blogger such as yourself! I agree completely that kids are much better off if their parents are happy, even if that means they aren't together any more. I know my son is a lot more relaxed now than he was when we all lived together and everyone was always walking on eggshells.

I am really excited to post my first review on my very own blog! I post reviews on Goodreads, Amazon, Shelfari, LibraryThing, etc., all the time, but this somehow feels different. I'm waiting until I read a book that totally blows me away before I do. I just read a book that had me cringing through the whole thing because of typos, characters that had no chemistry, and very uneven pacing, and I refuse to use a less than 5 star review for my very first one! LOL I'm starting Cinder and I have a feeling it's going to be my first review because I've heard so many great things about it.

As you can see, I can babble on like no other, so I don't think I'll have to worry about not having anything to say! LOL Thanks for following me and I look forward to getting to know you better through your blog and mine :D

      xoxo Julie
